I bought this bachelor flat for my daughter who is a first-year student in Stellenbosch. The flat was owned and lived in by the same lady for more than 35 years. We gutted the whole flat, taking out the existing geyser, bathtub and basins, tiles, carpets and the kitchen cabinets. My brother-in-law, who owns a renovation business in Stellenbosch, was kind enough to help with the big items such as plumbing, putting in a new shower and tiling. Early on in the renovation my daughter fell in love with very expensive tiles from Bathrooms 4 U which impacted our budget severely. The kitchen cabinets from Pine’s Lotter were painted with chalk paint and the bookcases bought from them were stained mahogany. Floor it All picked up the carpet and laid new vinyl flooring. The vanity in the bathroom was donated by her brother and the mirror was her grandmother’s. I made all the curtains, and the appliances were donated by her brother. As we were on a small budget, we decided to paint the whole flat dark green, which included the cupboards from the 1970s! She started as a student at the beginning and absolutely loves her flat.
