About the Project:
Our house is situated on a farm and there was no garden at all. There was also no outdoor braai area. Every time I go out on the porch, I see the beautiful mountains in the distance. This made me think how nice it would be just to have a place to sit and relax…
Our house is situated on a farm and there was no garden at all. There was also no outdoor braai area. Every time I go out on the porch, I see the beautiful mountains in the distance. This made me think how nice it would be just to have a place to sit and relax with my family, enjoying the creation all around us, watching the moon rise and the stars come out, appreciating the beauty of the trees…
So, my gardener Brighton and I made a circle. We gathered stones in the field. I had a big bush of thatch riet (dekriet) which I divided and planted evenly around the circle. All the poles were lying around on the farm; some of them were rotten and of no use anymore. The stones were all around us in the field, we just had to go and pick them up.
We bought the grid from a nearby quarry. The wax and diesel we bought from Ou Agristore as well as the screws and nails to build the benches. My son built the benches with the help of two other men. It cost us literally nothing but manpower and putting our heads together to finalise this project. I had two plant boxes and bought four of those tongue plants. We had spekboom which I planted close together in the front ground boxes to make a low hedge. Now, we dearly love and enjoy spending time with friends and family in the boma circle.

Budget Breakdown:
