With my rental agreement coming to an end and having lots of time on hand due to movement restrictions, I decided to move into my now retired mother’s garden flat who is living in the Northern Cape on a farm.

The flat has been unoccupied for years and the neglect has started to show. The space has mostly been used to store old unused long forgotten family items. I decided to refurb the entire flat and replace as much as possible to give a cosy modern look and feel without being to hesitant, especially with paint colour.

Between myself and my brother in law we did the majority of the work. We got some help with the new ceilings and tiles. Apart from the ceilings and tiles we did all the demolition work, prepping, painting, installing of cornice and skirtings, installing new lighting, building and installing new vanity and installing a new toilet.

All in all it has been a very humbling and satisfying experience.
