We purchased our house in 2014 but were living up country so we rented it out. In March, we moved to Robertson and started the renovation in mid-April.
We changed the entire main house inside. It’s over 100 years old, so we had to redo all the plumbing and electricity. The wooden floor in one section had to be lifted and supported and re-laid.
Previously, a tandem garage was converted into a main bedroom, walk-in closet and en-suite bathroom. This bathroom has now been gutted; we raised the floor in order to have better drainage and layout.
The existing kitchen became the lounge, the indoor braai the dining room, the lounge and outside front stoep the kitchen/scullery.
Part of the second bathroom was incorporated into the kitchen and then we made an en suite We have a third large guest bedroom en suite with a garden entrance that I have not submitted – but it just requires painting and cleaning up.
All the ceilings and woodwork were painted white to lighten and brighten the house.
