We moved into our house in November 2021 with the idea of renovating and doing as much as we can by ourselves. The first big project was to create an outdoor sitting and entertainment area flowing out of our sitting room. It was not an area used by previous owners but because of the north-facing location we wanted to utilise it. We started by moving a vibracrete wall to create some privacy and allowing a natural flow into the rest of the garden. We then built a bench with a flowerbed behind it. Initially, we had a plan to put crushed stone around the bench area but we soon realised that building a deck at the same level as the stoep would create a better flow out of the sitting room. So, we had to change our plans midway, but this led to an even better final result than we could have envisioned. We now have a wonderful and relaxing area where we love to entertain friends and family in both summer and wintertime.
