We bought our townhouse and moved in approximately four years ago with big dreams to renovate. Only after living in the house for more than two years did we start with the outside braai area (2017) and another two years went by before we started with the kitchen and living areas (Jan 2020). Both times, we knew exactly what we wanted and did all of the planning (right to the last centimetre) ourselves. We then got contractors to make the dream a reality!

Braai area:
The pavers were covered with screed, the braai was then built and covered by a roof (PVC and wood). The old metal door was replaced with a large sliding aluminium door that we designed and had custom made.

Kitchen and living area:
The contractors removed two walls which had to be reinforced with I-beams. We liked the look of the I-beams so much that we kept them ‘naked’ and made them stand out with a layer of grey paint. The old tiles were replaced with new wood-look tiles. The old door in the kitchen was moved and replaced with a glass aluminium door. The old countertops were replaced with cement tops. Basically, nothing of the old kitchen was kept. We designed the floating shelves with black metal frames and had them custom made by our contractor. The yellow touches might be a bit much for some but we just love the colour.

Bathroom:
Everything was replaced including the toilet, basin, window etc. We fell in love with the blue Moroccan tiles from Italtile and knew from the beginning that we would use them somewhere in the house. We also feel that the blue tiles complement all the black finishes.
