We were able to subdivide our property and sell off the front part of our plot, which gave us some money to send our eldest daughter to university and do some much-needed renovations in our home! We transformed a very cluttered second kitchen into a big open living area with a big built-in braai and we redid both bathrooms. The best part of the renovations was bargain-hunting and re-purposing things. For instance, the copper basin in the shower room was an old family piece that I’ve always had and the two wash tables for both bathrooms were bought on auction. All ‘new’ items are from second-hand shops or Marketplace, including the roll-top bath.
