The kitchen was very old and needed an update. It wasn’t open plan but a separate room with a pantry. We knocked down three walls and put in sleeper lintels. All the walls were covered with white square tiles which I knocked off. I also knocked all the plaster off to expose the bricks and then bagged it with cement; two of the walls were finished with cement that was mixed with green oxide. The kitchen cabinets were all renovated and painted white. A new stove was installed and we converted to gas. I couldn’t find floor tiles in the same shade to match the existing tiles, so I had to improvise with a new design on the floor with new tiles. All the shelves were made from scaffolding planks and the brackets were custom made. The biggest expense was the new granite tops. I’ve always wanted and dreamed of having a bohemian kitchen with a growing window…
