In 2022, we embarked on an ambitious journey to build our dream home, driven by a vision of elegance combined with the charm of second-hand treasures and the satisfaction of DIY endeavours. Our goal was to create a beautiful and functional space while remaining budget-conscious and hands-on. While we enlisted the expertise of contractors for the ‘outer shell’ of the house, the heart and soul of our home was crafted through our own efforts and creativity.

From the outset, we were determined to infuse our home with character. This led us to scour various sources for second-hand items, either from online auctions, Facebook Marketplace, or hand-me-downs from our family. Each piece we chose added depth and warmth to our overall design.

Throughout the house, we balanced our DIY efforts with professional assistance, ensuring the structural integrity and functionality of our home. We took great pride in refurbishing and building much of the furniture ourselves, with the help of our parents, infusing our home with personal touches and craftsmanship. In the kitchen, we constructed all the cupboards, creating custom storage solutions that perfectly suited our needs, with countertops sourced from a contractor. For our home office, we designed and built desks and cabinets that combined functionality with style, ensuring a productive and inspiring workspace. In the bathroom, we refurbished the vanity, transforming it into a beautiful focal point.

In the end, our home is a testament to the beauty and functionality that can be achieved through a blend of second-hand sourcing, DIY passion, and professional craftsmanship.
