We decided to sell our home of 23 years and find a small home for our future retirement. We found a retirement village that was built over 35 years ago but the unit needed a full renovation. The only new things we bought were the tiles, countertops in the kitchen, stove, bathroom sanitary ware, taps etc., and laminate floors. Most of the pots were from my life as a potter 30 years ago. I found the curtains on Marketplace. I had an Oregon pine three-piece wall unit that was altered by my carpenter friend to use as kitchen units. The scullery unit was also an old unit from my storeroom. The big pair of cupboards for the kitchen I found at auction. My business is an Annie Sloan painting business, so we did the painting and sanding of all the units for the kitchen. I didn’t have to buy any furniture; I just gave my pieces a refresh. My husband gave me free rein to do exactly what I wanted, so I have created a space that feels real and very true to my style.
