About the Project:
I bought a house. Yey! The advertisement said: “a renovator’s dream”. Translated this means an old house, needing a lot of attention and repair. And it did need lots of it, but also just the right bits to pull it back into shape. For the most part we could do a lot of it ourselves,…
I bought a house. Yey! The advertisement said: “a renovator’s dream”. Translated this means an old house, needing a lot of attention and repair. And it did need lots of it, but also just the right bits to pull it back into shape.
For the most part we could do a lot of it ourselves, but we used contractors in parts to ensure that we also had the right skill where we weren’t necessarily the right fit for the execution and finish I wanted.
I initially did not want to change the bathroom – I reckoned a lick of paint would do the trick, but in the end, luckily, I got swayed to make the bathroom a bathroom that makes you want to use it, a home within a home. A space that is beautiful, co-created and welcoming. Like a friend of mine said: a bathroom needs to be a sanctuary, a space to declutter and unwind, to be re-energised once you emerge from it. And indeed, that is what we created. The bathroom took shape as we moved into each new section of what was required, and I still held out to keep the old washbasin until just before it actually got stuck back on the wall. I’m super proud of what we created.
