Throughout our undergrad studies at university, my brothers and I lived in one of my parent’s two-bedroom apartments. The neighborhood was exceptionally beautiful, but in truth the interior of the apartment lacked lustre and could be described as nothing more than a student flat or a trap house for lack of better words.

Upon graduating, one of my brothers has subsequently moved to play rugby in the States; my other brother will be moving to the States shortly to pursue his master’s degree and I will be moving to the Netherlands to pursue my master’s degree. Consequently, my parents will have to put the apartment on the market for rental. In the interim, my brother and I took it upon ourselves to do some modifications on the space, in the hope that whoever comes next will enjoy the apartment and create as many memories as we did.

Starting with the kitchen, we introduced a new splashback and kitchen light, gave the cupboards a fresh coat of paint, removed the contact paper that I applied to the countertops so the granite could be exposed, and introduced some blinds for privacy. Moving into the living room and dining room, we also added a fresh coat of paint and more modern wall plug outlets (featuring the two-pin plugs and USB plugs). Furthermore, we decorated the space with very neutral decor.
The bedrooms used to have carpets in them, which were honestly awful, so we completely stripped them and replaced them with tiles. Moreover, the light fixtures were changed, wall sockets were upgraded and both rooms were painted, including the cupboards, and the cupboard door handles were changed. Lastly, all the doors, excluding the entrave door, were painted a new shade.

My brother and I oversaw the project and worked as well; however, we recruited external workers to do the lighting, electricity and tiling. I did the cleaning and decor of the apartment on my own.
