I recently revamped my mum’s sewing room. She is retired and spends many hours making beautiful quilts.
It was challenging as the room has limited wall space, but a lot of storage was needed.
It had to be pretty, but practical.
For example, I painted an old chest of drawers, added wheels and made an ironing board for the top.
She needed two work areas, one for cutting and one for sewing, so the desks are next to each other with a swivel chair between.
Decor and storage were combined, so transparent containers for colourful pretty items and colour-coordinated boxes for other necessities were used.
There was an unsightly solar installation in the room, so I bought a room divider/screen and adapted it to cover the area, but still allowed for ventilation of and access to the unit when needed.
A custom cushion, ironing board cover, doggy bed and basket trim were used to bring a beautiful, consistent fabric into the space.
I used a dramatic pink (her favourite colour) on the walls.
A friend and I did the work, with the help of a painter/handyman, and we did the installation over two days. All the planning, shopping etc was done and prepped prior to this.
We are not professionals, but believe the end product is!
