When purchasing my home, I could see the potential for a gorgeous and airy open-plan kitchen/lounge area.
Originally, it was very small and had no character. However, the ‘bone structure’ was good and could handle the transformation I had in mind.
Luckily, there were very few hiccups throughout the renovation and the end result is exactly what I had hoped for.
The pillar that was left creates the illusion of an entrance area and defines the kitchen area perfectly. The island that I had installed houses my gas stove and allows me to cook while chatting to family and friends. It also defines the separation between the kitchen and lounge area.
We kept the existing tiling in the lounge to keep costs down.
To define the new kitchen floor area and avoid looking like we tried to match tiles, we opted for a completely different tile with a pattern that still works with the existing tiling.
